There Are No Rules in ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ Trailer

The drug war gets a lot more out of control in Sony’s new trailer for “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” with Benicio Del Toro returning as undercover operative Alejandro Gillick and Josh Brolin back as CIA agent Matt Graver Early in the bleak trailer, Del Toro’s character — whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin — guns down a cartel operative in broad daylight on a street after pulling off his mask and saying “Adios” to the victim. The pair, who starred with Emily Blunt in 2015’s “Sicario,” finds themselves back in the middle of the violent war against drugs along the United States-Mexico border. With the drug cartels now smuggling terrorists across the U.S. border, they decide to pit the cartels against each other. “You want to see this thing through? I’m going to have to get …. dirty,” Brolin tells a roomful of government officials.

In the drug war, there are no rules – and as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) calls on the mysterious Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin, to escalate the war in nefarious ways."

‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ Official Trailer: Benicio Del Toro Starts a War Between Drug Cartels

"“Day of the Soldado” finds Alejandro being recruited once again by Matt Graver to kidnap the daughter of an infamous drug kingpin in order to start a war between dealing cartels that will hopefully wipe both of them off the map. When the plan is exposed, however, Alejandro is ordered to execute the daughter (Isabela Moner), but not even a trained assassin like Alejandro is willing to murder a child. “He has the chance for an eye for an eye, but sees a young girl going through what his [executed] daughter went through,” Del Toro tells USA Today about the sequel. “He has to decide to follow orders or protect the girl. It’s just one thing about this screenplay that makes it interesting.”
